Zijn al even beroemde moeder maakt tournee na tournee als concertpianiste. Wankelend onder die last zoekt hij zijn weg, als musicus, als dichter. Hoe verover je ooit je eigen plek in de geschiedenis? Als zulke voetsporen je zijn voorgegaan, wat kan jij zelf de wereld dan nog nalaten? Al te makkelijk glijd je uit, maakt speelschulden, breekt je studie af, ru\u00efneert je gezondheid.<\/strong><\/p><p>Zij maakt zich zorgen om haar benjamin. Heeft hij de kracht om violist te worden? Is zijn dichtwerk de naam Schumann waardig? Hoe moet ze hem behoeden voor de vloek van de middelmaat?<\/p><p>Als Felix Schumann \u2013 vernoemd naar Mendelssohn, peetzoon van Brahms \u2013 op 24-jarige leeftijd voorvoelt dat de tuberculose hem fataal gaat worden, smeekt hij zijn moeder om naar huis te mogen komen. Maar ze is er niet, bij zijn laatste gevecht. Hij sterft in de armen van zijn oudste zus.<\/p><p>Acteur Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen geeft gestalte aan Felix Schumann, op zoek naar de toekomst die hij nimmer had. Met het koor als dynamische tegenspeler neemt hij de toeschouwer mee op zijn reis. De enscenering voert langs muziek die zijn lot markeert: liederen die zijn moeder in haar jonge jaren componeerde; het werk\u00a0Felix und Clara\u00a0(2005) van Jacques Bank en ten slotte drie van zijn eigen gedichten, door Johannes Brahms op muziek gezet.<\/p><p>Over generaties heen reiken regisseur Mart van Berckel (27) en tekstschrijver Sophie Kassies (63) elkaar de hand om Felix Schumann
